As for essential minerals, stevia contains high levels of chromium. This is an important mineral that helps in the regulation of blood sugar levels. Aside from chromium, stevia also has manganese, selenium, sodium, iron, potassium, niacin, zinc and phosphorus.

Because of the concentrations of vitamins and minerals, stevia is now seen as an ideal sugar substitute because it is not only a sweetener but also a substance that brings extra nutrients to the body. The vitamins and minerals in stevia are known to help in managing or even curing certain diseases like diabetes, low blood sugar, hypertension, eczema and other skin diseases. It is also known to help in combating certain opportunistic bacteria.

Stevia Gets FDA Approval

Stevia has already been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration as a safe food supplement, which is a big step since for the longest time the US FDA would not grant stevia this status because of unfounded fears propagated by its opponents. Stevia has been used all over the world for decades now and is very popular in many countries like Japan.
