5 Hair Dying Mistakes to Avoid
There comes a time in a woman’s life when grey hair becomes an issue and dying hair starts to sound like a very appealing option. I think all of my friends who are in their early 40s have been dying their hair for a while
“I want to be a brunette again” or “I want to be a redhead.” This is how it all starts, with a simple wish. When you don’t have the time or money to go to a beauty salon and have the job done by a trained person or you just think you can do it yourself at home. The changes of damaging your hair with DIY hair dying are high, even if you do use the best brown hair dye, best blonde dye, etc that you can find. Read on and find out what are the most common mistakes when it comes to hair dying at home and how to avoid them
If possible, choose a color that is close to you natural hair color (you can take the color of your eyebrows or lashes as a reference). My recommendation is to choose the color together with a professional hairstylist who will definitely know better what is best for your hair, depending on things like its texture or the color of your skin.
Mistake no. 1: Hair color will be the same as the color on the hair dye box
The end results won’t always be the one you see on the promo materials, on the commercials or on the product package, because it all depends on your hair color and texture. Always use the color chart on the back of the box to see how your hair might look like after you dye it.
Mistake no 2: Not testing the color before
Dying all of your hair without making a test before is one of the biggest mistakes you can do. The best thing to do is to dye only a strand of hair, one that can be easily hidden. That way, if the result is not the one you expect, you can stop the process without ruining all of your hair.
Mistake no 3: Not protecting skin and clothes
Hair dye can cause stains that are very hard to remove from clothes and skin, so make sure to cover your shoulders with a towel. You probably won’t be able to use that towel for anything else afterwards. Only your head and neck should be exposed.
Mistake no 4: Using a moisturizer
There is no need to use a hair moisturizer or conditioner before dying your hair, just shampoo it one day before to remove dust, sebum and any other styling products that you might have applied to your hair before.
Many women make the mistake of dying hair without washing it before. Dust or traces of other products can prevent the dye from sticking to the hair, so the result won’t be the one you expect.
You should also trim your hair before dying to get rid of the split ends.
Mistake no 5: Leaving in the hair dye for too long
Leaving hair dye in for too long will damage your hair and scalp. Remember that it is always easier and safer to get a darker tone hair dye rather of leaving it in for too long.
If the color you get is not as intense as you want it you can dye your hair again after 2 or 3 weeks.
